Elijah Dixon About Me
Elijah Dixon did not always picture journalism in his future, but his path to find it has been shaped by self-discovery, family influence, and a passion for sports. Dixon, 23, is in his final semester as a journalism major at California State University Long Beach (CSULB) and is originally from Palmdale, California. He began his college career at UC Merced for his first year then transferred to College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita for two years. He transferred to CSULB in 2024 and looks to graduate at the end of this semester. Dixon started as a mechanical engineering major. Over time, he realized that the work didn't suit and align with his interests or strengths. Knowing he has a passion for sports, he made the decision to switch majors. Now, Dixon hopes to build a career in broadcast journalism, with a focus on sports reporting. Sports has always played a significant role in his life. He is a fan of the Oklahoma City Thunder, San Francisco 49ers, and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. His involvement in sports goes beyond just watching. Dixon plays for the CSULB ultimate frisbee team, and enjoys playing basketball and soccer. Family is a central source of motivation for him. His mother is from Germany and his father is from Costa Rica. Both immigrated to the United States in hopes of building a better life for themselves and their family. Dixon says he admires his parents for the work they put in to making sure that he would be able to live a good life, and how they were able to be successful even though they came from nothing. With graduation approaching, Dixon says he is focused on refining and improving certain skills, such as video editing, and preparing for world of broadcast journalism.
